Every week we talk to lots of people who do lots of different things and lately there seems to be a common trend in work places: less people to do the same amount of work, furlows, layoffs, stress, stress, stress…

Most of the experts seem to agree that the economy will recover. It’s just a matter of when. In the mean time, the mood in many workplaces seems to be, shall we say, less than favorable. All because of our current ‘economic downturn’ or whatever they are calling it now.

We would like to do our small part to make your work day a little better. We have some services that we used to provide for free to the employers of our clients. Some of you may remember them. We may have even paid a visit to your workplace.

So we’ve been thinking, what better time than now to begin offering these services again? They take a bit of work to setup, but they really are a lot of fun. Employees get a little something extra, it doesn’t cost their employer anything, and we get to meet all sorts of nice people. It’s a win-win…win.

Here’s a list of free community services we’ve offered in the past. Perhaps one of these would work well in your workplace, or we could adapt them to better fit your unique situation.

  • Stress Relief Breaks – Employees receive a computerized scan of the tension in there neck and upper back muscles followed by a 10 minute chair massage. Generally they also have a few minutes to ask any health related questions they may have.

  • Health Talks – Employees receive an informative 30-45 minute talk on a health related topic while enjoying their lunch. (some employers are willing to provide lunch for participants, although you probably can’t get that part for free ;) Past topics have included: Weight Management, Cardiovascular Health, Arthritis, Stress, and Digestion but you are also welcome to suggest a topic.

  • Ergonomic Evaluations – We visit the work station of each employee, assess the ergonomics of their work environment and offer suggestions for how to most efficiently reduce the physical stress on their body. Optionally we can also just stand in each person’s cubicle shouting “Sit Up Straight”, but that hasn’t been shown to be particularly effective.

If any of these are things you would like to see in your workplace, please let us know. We can provide you with additional information to share with your office manager, or wellness committee, or whoever would facilitate the event at your office. If you would like more information, please feel free to call the office, 651-917-9800, or e-mail Brian Malzer, D.C. or Matt Caldwell, D.C.
